The United States Mint has announced the final design for the Saratoga National Historical Park quarter. The reverse of the coin will feature a close-up depiction of British General John Burgoyne surrendering his sword to American General Horatio Gates at the conclusion of the Battle of Saratoga, along with the inscription british surrender 1777. Inscriptions along the rim of the reverse include saratoga, new york, 2015 and the motto e pluribus unum.

The 1777 Battle of Saratoga was the first major victory for American forces during the Revolutionary War, and is considered the turning point of the war – renewing the patriots’ hopes for independence and gaining critical foreign alliances for financial and military assistance.

This handsome quarter featuring a revered historical park in the state of New York is a perfect match for the 2001 New York Statehood quarter . The Saratoga is the 30th issue of the National Park Quarter Series and the last of five new designs released in 2015.
